FAN GIRL FRIDAY - CHANDICE PROBST

FAN GIRL FRIDAY - CHANDICE PROBST

Chandice + I go way, way back. In fact, I don’t even remember how we met. It’s pretty much like that with everyone! lol. But I do remember that she wanted to hire me to photograph some styled parties she putting together. From there we started working almost weekly filming and photographing her recipes for her blog. Everything she creates is Gluten Free yet still delicious! I still pull up her Instapot recipes when Im in a pinch for dinner!

- I PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WITNESS YOUR AMAZING RECIPES FIRST HAND, BUT, IF WE WERE MEETING FOR THE FIRST TIME, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHAT IT IS YOU DO?

Awww, thanks Amie! I love creating yummy recipes that are gluten-free but nobody would know because they are so good! I also love sharing mocktails and everyday entertaining ideas.

- HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING IT?

I started my first blog in 2009 before there was even social media! It was on .blogspot.com and was so fun to see the comments roll in and the authenticity was great because there was hardly any competition.

- What inspired you to start your website?

After being diagnosed with celiac disease, I knew I needed to share this new gluten-free journey with others who were also on it.

- YOU ALSO HAVE A HAND IN THE TASTEMAKER CONFERENCE, HOW DID YOU BECOME A PART OF THAT? + WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART?

Yes, it is the BEST! The founder Abbey asked me to partner with her after her initial creation of this amazing event. I was currently working on Enlighten Retreat for women so when it wrapped up, I knew it was time to move into my role at Tastemaker Conference. I have loved working closely with our sponsors and brands as the sponsor director. I also LOVE putting together our excursions that are truly unforgettable!

-IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD BE SOMETHING YOU’D CHANGE FROM WHEN YOU WERE STARTING OUT? OR WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Take my blog more seriously from the get go. Honor my time and abilities.

- WHAT WERE THE HARDEST ASPECTS OF STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS & HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?

Giving it the time needed to really get it started. It is so hard to do it all by yourself at first but give it all you've got and it will be worth it one day!

- WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO HAS BIG DREAMS BUT FINANCIALLY CANT AFFORD TO CREATE THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

Start small with just a website and social media channels. You can do that for pennies. Start creating and get your beautiful creativity out into the world!

- WHERE DO YOU FIND SUPPORT FOR YOUR DREAM AND HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR CREATIVITY ALIVE?

My blogger bestie, Erin from Meaningfuleats.com and I talk on Marco Polo everyday almost and we talk through ideas, schedules and so much more. I love having amazing women in my life who also support and inspire me.

- WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF BEING A FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR?

Feeling so strong and powerful! I love showing my daughter that we women can do anything BUT not everything.

- WHAT IS ONE OFFICE|BUSINESS MUST HAVE?  A PROGRAM OR TOOL THAT WAS LIFE CHANGING WHEN YOU DISCOVERED IT?

A laptop and airpods haha! So original, but I love working on the couch next to my sweetheart at night while we watch a show.

- WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN WHO ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO FIND THEIR STYLE/NICHE?

Lean in the what you LOVE. As you do, it will all work out and everyone will feel your authenticity.

- ON YOUR PATH TO YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS, DID YOU EVER COME ACROSS A MOMENT WHERE YOU DOUBTED YOURSELF? I THINK IT’S HUMAN TO SOMETIMES LOSE ALL FAITH IN OURSELVES AND OUR ABILITY TO CREATE. WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO MAY BE IN THIS SPOT RIGHT NOW? SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO GIVE UP.

Oh yes, everytime I had a baby I thought, ok I can't do this all! But my amazing husband reminds me that I need something so it is better to keep working on the thing I have already started rather than starting something new. I love this reminder and would say the same to someone else.

- WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO?

My sweet mama, she is everything I hope to be one day...

-WHAT IS ONE WORKSHOP OR CONFERENCE/EXPO YOU’VE ATTENDED THAT INSPIRED YOU SO MUCH, YOU WOULD ATTEND AGAIN?!

Oh boy, I LOVE Tastemaker Conference for food bloggers so much so that I am a partner there and work everyday to make it better. We just started offering virtual conferences! I also love Expo West.

⁃HAVE YOU READ ANY BOOKS OR LISTENED TO A  PODCAST YOU FEEL WOULD BE BENEFICIAL FOR FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE?

Grace not Perfection is my favorite book for women entrepreneurs who are also moms and Christians. I always need the reminder to give myself grace. I also LOVE the audiobook of Magnolia Story narrated by Chip and Joanna Gaines...so good!!

⁃WHAT IS YOU GO TO TOOL OF YOUR TRADE THAT YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

Making gluten-free food delicious?? ;)

⁃WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST SUPPORTER?

My mom because she literally is up for anything! From writing a cookbook with me to speaking at events and doing tv segments, she has always been my biggest cheerleader. Also, my sweet husband because without him, my site wouldn't be here. He helped me develop it and keeps it maintained regularly.

- WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVORITE RECIPE?

Hmmm, I would probably say our Instant Pot mac n' cheese with extra nutmeg or GF ginger molasses cookies.

-WHAT IS ONE TIP YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO GROW ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Find people you can collaborate with and do it! The most growth I have had has come from collaborations. Also, find what you can provide to others that nobody else can.

-WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS THE MOST BENEFICIAL TOOL YOU OFFER FOR FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS?

I would say encouragement to live vivaciously and fearlessly YOU. I also say that it's ok to "fail" because that gives you the opportunity to learn.

- HOW THE HECK DO YOU BALANCE BUSINESS + MOTHERHOOD?

Definitely keeping a schedule is the ONLY way I can do it. My mind has a million ideas and tasks floating at all times so I have to manually "shut it off" when I am in "mom mode" and focus. Then I go 50 million miles an hour to bust stuff out during my "work" hours.

- WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL MEDIA, IS IT BETTER, IN YOUR OPINION, TO HAVE ONE ACCOUNT THAT YOU SHARE EVERYTHING OR DIVIDE PERSONAL + BIZ?

I only have one account for my business. If I didn't have a blog, I would literally pull every social media account I have down and live offline entirely. Ron Swanson status!
