Cristy is a lifestyle photographer, photographing business owners in their element with their family, lifestyle, business & products.
Her passion for photography continues to the relationships built with her clients.
“In high school I discovered I had a love for photography. I was intrigued by the mystery and science of how a photograph worked from the settings on my camera, to the final product of the photograph on Kodak paper.
Continuing this love, I graduated from Texas Tech University with a photography degree and my curiosity was fulfilled when developing my own film and photographs on archival paper. The mystery was solved, and the time in the darkroom was like therapy.
I met my husband at Texas Tech University in 2001, and we got married in 2003. We have been married for 17 years now with two handsome and cute little boys.
I am a balloon and my husband is the string. I am somewhat of a hippie child and wanderer. He is grounded and well organized. He helps me not float off too far and get lost and I help him be a little more spontaneous. Together we are a perfect pair.”
Favorites include: running, cooking, biking, CrossFit and traveling to Colorado.
- If we were meeting for the first time, how would you describe what it is you do?
Hello hello! My name is Cristy and I am a product and lifestyle photographer. I photograph products to help make you shine in your website imagery, social media and marketing material. I help make your business look elevated and shine above the rest. I also photograph portraits, as that was my first love. I am a preset creator and also an photography educator teaching you how to work your DSLR or your smartphone.
- How long have you been doing it?
I have been in business for 14 yrs. I also received my bachelor's degree in Photography from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
- What has been your favorite project so far + why?
Goodness. Anything that has to do with food. haha I love to photograph food and I'm so thankful to my food clients. I also loved shooting a massive fitness photoshoot a few years back. It was a self-purpose project and it was a blast.
-If you could go back in time, what would be something you’d change from when you were starting out? Or what advice would you give your younger self?
If you are getting into a creative field, i.e photography, take business classes too. Knowing how to run a business is what will keep you in business for the long haul.
- What were the hardest aspects of starting your own business & how did you overcome them?
Learning that you can't please everyone. Use those moments as learning experiences for how you can make your business and client experience even better.
- Where do you find support for your dream and how do you keep your creativity alive?
Inspiration comes from mentors and fellow entrepreneurs who are driven. They don't know it, but some of my mentors are Jamie Kern Lima, Sara Blakely, Jasmine Star, Brendon Burchard, Christy Wright and Amy Porterfield.
- What is your favorite part of being a female entrepreneur?
The female entrepreneur world is amazing and so supportive. I love how everyone lifts each other up. When we all come together and work on the same team, we can fly so much higher.
- What is one office|business must have?
A program or tool that was life changing when you discovered itr? 100% Lightroom. It is the space I create presets and edit photos.
- What advice do you have for women who are still struggling to find their style/niche?
Follow your gut. Observe yourself and tune into the thing that drives you, and makes you feel emotional. When you feel the emotion, you know it's right for you.
- On your path to your current business, did you ever come across a moment where you doubted yourself? I think it’s human to sometimes lose all faith in ourselves and our ability to create. What would you tell someone who may be in this spot right now? Someone who wants to give up.
Every day/week/month I doubt myself in some way. I am human. I have to give myself grace on those days. When I feel this, I change my scenery. I take a walk or run outside, go workout at the gym, or watch tv and hang out with my family. Also, spending time in prayer is a major helps me change my perspective.
- Who do you look up to?
At this moment, I look up to Jamie Kern Lima. She has worked so hard to be where she is today. She battled through starting her business and people telling her no. She also delt with mean girls and pressed on even though it was tough. She started her business It Cosmetics and last year sold it for more than a billion dollars. Her determination motivates and inspires me. Not just because she was a hard worker, but because she also makes it a purpose to lift other women up rather than bring them down.
-What is one workshop or conference/expo you’ve attended that inspired you so much, you would attend again?!
Alt Summit was amazing. I met so many wonderful creatives. It was the best experience.
⁃Have you read any books or listened to a podcast you feel would be beneficial for Female Entrepreneurs that you want to share?
Yes! Currently, I am reading Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima.
⁃What is you go to tool of your trade that you couldn’t live without?
My camera, Canon 5D Mark IV.
⁃Who is your biggest supporter?
My husband is 100% my biggest supporter. I am very thankful for him.
- What is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
Honestly? I like to do nothing. haha Sit in bed, watching Hallmark shows and eating meals in bed. This is what I do on most Sundays lately. It's my recover day. haha
-We love seeing how your kids interact with you on your social media!! How do you balance motherhood and work?
Since my kids have just recently gone back to school (14 months later due to pandemic), I am just now getting days back to myself. So while they have been home doing virtual school, the balancing thing has been a challenge. I try to keep my evenings open (no work), so I can focus on them.
